I received an email a while ago. The email wanted me to upgrade the Microsoft Outlook or Outlook express. It actually attached an upgrade of the patches as well.

This is the first time that i received such an email.

Below is the email content:-

Microsoft has released an update for Microsoft Outlook / Outlook Express. This update is critical and provides you with the latest version of the Microsoft Outlook / Outlook Express and offers the highest levels of stability and security.

Instructions

* Install Update for Microsoft Outlook / Outlook Express (KB910721). To do this, follow these steps:

1. Run attached file officexp-KB910721-FullFile-ENU.exe

2. Restart Microsoft Outlook / Outlook Express

System Requirements

* Supported Operating Systems: Windows 2000; Windows 98; Windows ME; Windows NT; Windows Server 2003; Windows XP; Windows Vista

* This update applies to the following product: Microsoft Outlook / Outlook Express

As you can see the patches name is officexp-KB910721-FullFile-ENU.exe and it has been zip up. Logical thinking tells me that this email is not from Microsoft although the sender name is from Microsoft Support. This is because as you know,  normally any windows updates will be done via downloading from Microsoft auto update utility. Moreover the sender address is not from Microsoft also. Therefore i can tell you that this is some sort of phishing or virus to be spread and install to the email client and exploit it.

I’m wondering why my Eset antivirus is not blocking,delete or quarantine the attachment. Anyway should you come across this email, beware! DO NOT download the zip file and extract and install it. DELETE the email immediately. Or probably search what’s others say.

Updates: Received another same email again this morning and my Eset antivirus has deleted it successfully.

After about 3 years since Sony launched the PS3 game console, is finally hacked! I do not want to elaborate more … lets the guy GeoHot speaks for himself:-

I have read/write access to the entire system memory, and HV level access to the processor. In other words, I have hacked the PS3. The rest is just software. And reversing. I have a lot of reversing ahead of me, as I now have dumps of LV0 and LV1. I’ve also dumped the NAND without removing it or a modchip.

3 years, 2 months, 11 days…thats a pretty secure system

Although he did not mention weather is the slim or the fat has been successfully hacked or should i assume both firmware is the same. Anyway I would also really like to know how’s Sony going to re-act to it. Follow the updates HERE

As I’d reported previously about phishing scam has taken place over the internet. Be it my self experience or article that i read. Today i read this interesting article on how do you really identify a phishing scam and i think i should share with you as well.

What is phishing – The strange name sounds a lot like the fishing you do in a lake with a pole. That’s because it’s a similar process: phishers apply bait and wait for a bite. They want you to be the fish.

Your bank just sent you an e-mail. You open it up and the bank claims to have found an error in your favor. “Click here” to claim the money which is rightfully yours! The old saying still has resonance in this connected age. If it sounds too good to be true, it probably is.

This may get a little techy, but it’s something any internet user should learn. The URL (Uniform Resource Locator), which is the web page’s full address, is a telling hint toward whether you’re being scammed.

Your location bar is usually up at the top of the window you use for web browsing. The text inside starts with http:// or https://. The part that comes immediately after that is the host name, like /wired.com/. Sometimes, instead it has extra words up front, like /howto.wired.com/. That’s called a sub-domain.

Received an email from my colleague this morning and i can tell you what a pleasant day to start with ! (since is  Monday ) Not sure if you have view this picture or not and don’t ask me how my colleague got it. Anyway here you go … As the title said ” Drinking Is Like Yoga !”.

Read a news reported by TheStar today. It is quite risky to use internet nowadays as there are so many scams and phishing activities around in the cyberworld, especially in the social networking site.

This lady actually came with a good intention in helping her friend but end up cheated by some scammer in the internet for over USD4000

ST. LOUIS: A Missouri woman was tricked into wiring about US$4,000 (RM14,400) to someone in England after receiving faked messages from a friend on Facebook asking for help, police said.

Jayne Scherrman of Cape Girardeau wired the money through Western Union after receiving what she believed were several requests for help from her friend.

They believe someone took over the Facebook account of a Cape Girardeau County resident, Grace Parry, changed the password so she couldn’t access it and sent out messages saying she and her husband had been detained in London and needed money.

Sony has announced a new system software for PS3. It is version 3.0 now.

Some of the key enhancement/updates:-

1. New design of the XMB screen

redesigned of XMB background color & fonts size

2. Information Panel

Information panel will shown on the top right hand corner. This is very useful as you don’t need to browse to the destination for status checking.

3. Copy & Paste function

Copy and paste via the onscreen keyboard.

4. What’s New

Current “Information Board” replaced by “What’s New”.

5. Audio Multi-Output

You can now set the audio output to HDMI, Digital & AV multi out simultaneously.

6. HDD content audio & subtitle language

Predefined the audio & subtitle language playback on a HDD content. This is still very much depend on the original format.

7. Fast forward & Fast reverse

Pictures tell a thousand words

8. Printing a Web page & save a Web page as picture

Print a web page (need to set up a printer) and save the web page as picture.

9. Friends

Lists of messages from a friend to be displayed.

My current antivirus software is about to expire soon. So i decided to check out some other new antivirus software on the net if should there is other product which is better then the one i’m using now. (or rather cheaper )

I came across Eset NOD32 antivirus software (Malaysian site). To my curiosity, i clicked on the buy link and wanted to know how much they are selling. And this is what i found:-

Check the above the red circle, to buy a 2 years license is actually much more expensive then 1 year! I’m not sure how they actually calculate the “promotion” price but i think it is definitely a typo and they should rectify soonest possible.

As reported by Mobile Industry Review, there is independent mobile phone manufacturer is intending to launch a dual sim mobile phone which has Andriod OS built-in in a very near future.

I just met with some chaps who will, they tell me, have a dual sim Android handset hitting the marketplace “in the very near term.”

I pressed them further, but they would only commit to “quite a few weeks away” and in terms of cost, “it will be very competitively priced”.

“Sub $200?” I pressed, “Well [nodding] it’ll be very competitive priced.”

So this is very exciting news for the handset marketplace.

The company in question is an independent manufacturer – and they’re seriously innovating.

I was actually intend to buy a dual sim mobile phone recently. I use to carry 2 phones nowadays. One is for my office clients’ communications and the other is for my personal contact. I got very excited when i heard of Acer is launching a dual sim and dual standby mode mobile phone DX900. But i did not buy it, after cross checking with my friend who is using HTC with Windows Mobile OS built-in. He mentioned to me that this OS is very unstable and always hang.

So i think above reported is a good news to me and i will wait for this Android OS Dual Sim Mobile Phone. I hope it will be supporting dual standby mode as well.
