Buyers favour NoteBooks over NetBooks – IDC

netbook notebookDigitimes reported that IDC has done a survey over Asia Pacific region excluding Japan and the findings is, most of the buyers would still choose a regular Notebooks over Netbooks.

The survey, which polled 2,263 new PC buyers across the region for their PC buying preferences, covered Australia, India, Korea, Malaysia, China, Singapore, Taiwan, Thailand, and Vietnam.

“Despite mini-notebooks flying off the shelves, which helped to buoy PC volumes especially during the economic crisis in 2009, limited cannibalization of regular notebook sales is expected across the region. Among the survey respondents, 60% indicated that they would still purchase a regular notebook as their next PC”, said Reuben Tan, senior manager of Asia Pacific personal systems research at IDC.

Most respondents in China, India, Malaysia, and Singapore indicated that the length of warranty and after-sales support were the most important factors influencing their decision when purchasing a new PC. On the other hand, PC brand and store location were among the least important concerns.

For my personal point of view, i would also want a notebook compare to a netbook since the price differentiation are not much. What about you?

Phishing Scam Identify – Howto

PhishingAs I’d reported previously about phishing scam has taken place over the internet. Be it my self experience or article that i read. Today i read this interesting article on how do you really identify a phishing scam and i think i should share with you as well.

What is phishing – The strange name sounds a lot like the fishing you do in a lake with a pole. That’s because it’s a similar process: phishers apply bait and wait for a bite. They want you to be the fish.

Your bank just sent you an e-mail. You open it up and the bank claims to have found an error in your favor. “Click here” to claim the money which is rightfully yours! The old saying still has resonance in this connected age. If it sounds too good to be true, it probably is.

This may get a little techy, but it’s something any internet user should learn. The URL (Uniform Resource Locator), which is the web page’s full address, is a telling hint toward whether you’re being scammed.

Your location bar is usually up at the top of the window you use for web browsing. The text inside starts with http:// or https://. The part that comes immediately after that is the host name, like /wired.com/. Sometimes, instead it has extra words up front, like /howto.wired.com/. That’s called a sub-domain.

To me, i think the best practice is always remember of a sentence – THERE IS NO FREE LUNCH IN THIS WORLD.

Smartphone in High Demand

smartphone

Reported by IDC saying that the demand for Smartphone (Converged Mobile Device) is still in high demand despite of the economy downturn through out the world. IDC also stated that growth of mobile phone vendors shipment are actually reached a new record during a single quarter.

Vendors shipped a total of 43.3 million units during the third quarter of 2009 (3Q09), up 4.2% from the 41.5 million units shipped in 3Q08, and up 3.2% from shipments of 41.9 million units in 2Q09.

“Demand for converged mobile devices has remained strong all year,” said Ramon Llamas, senior research analyst with IDC’s Mobile Devices Technology and Trends team. “These devices provide more utility and entertainment than traditional mobile phones. Moreover, users have plenty of devices from which to choose, whether it be a multimedia powerhouse, a messaging machine, or a social networking tool. As users expect greater functionality from their devices beyond telephony, we believe the converged mobile device market to grow faster than the overall mobile phone market.”

“With the release of Android-based handsets from several different OEMs, most recently Motorola, but also HTC, Samsung LG, and Sony Ericsson, the buzz surrounding Android OS is reaching critical mass,” added William Stofega, research manager with IDC’s Mobile Devices Technology and Trends team. “HTC was first to come to market with an Android device, other vendors took longer to develop their Android portfolio. However, the release of new Android devices has picked up dramatically over the past several months and the release of version 2.0 demonstrates that Android is rapidly evolving and responsive to suggestions from OEMs and developers. With an expanding portfolio of handsets and a just released update of the code, Android is poised to mount a serious challenge to the incumbent smartphone OEMs for the first time in its brief history.”
