Nokia Money – Mobile Financial Service from Nokia

nokia-logo-2Nokia announced that they will be launching basic mobile financial service to the public as early as the beginning of next year. “Nokia Money” is going to design as simple and convenient as making a voice call or sending a SMS, according to a statement released by Nokia.

The service by Nokia will allow consumers to use their mobile phones to send money to other people and to pay for goods, pay utility bills and top up their sim cards with credit.

To support this services the statement said Nokia is building a wide network of Nokia Money agents that will provide facilities for consumers to deposit or withdraw cash.

Nokia Money would be useful in developing countries where access to banking is restricted but mobile phones have penetrated to even the remotest of corners.

EU invest millions in High Speed Mobile Internet

AFP reported that EU (European Union) to invest 18million euro (25 million dollar) in an ultra high speed internet system for mobile services.

The funding will be released on January 1 next year for research on what is known as Long Term Evolution (LTE) Advanced technology, the high end of the fourth generation of mobile technology which should offer users “mobile internet speeds up to a hundred times faster than current 3G networks,” according to the European Commission.

The new LTE technology, not the advanced version which the EU will fund, is currently being trialled by mobile operators in Finland, Germany, Norway, Spain, Sweden and Britain and is expected to be commercially available in Sweden and Norway in the first half of next year.

That will provide mobile internet speeds of up to 100 megabits per second, 10 times faster than the 3G mobile networks.

Detention and Fine when you send Erotic SMS

china_iphoneYou should think twice before sending a erotic, insulting or threatening SMS messages if you stay in Henan Province, China. This is because the local province legal office has announced that a new law to prevent unwanted and inappropriate text messages via mobile phones.

In Henan province, one such message will lead to five days in detention, and three messages could result in 10 days detention and a fine of 500 yuan ($73).The rules state that sending an erotic, insulting or threatening messages, which interrupt receivers’ normal lives will result in a maximum five-day detention or a 500-yuan fine.

In the case of three or more messages, the sender will be detained for a maximum of 10 days and must pay a maximum 500-yuan fine.

Henan is not the first province to address injurious text messages. Liaoning province passed a regulation early this year saying that erotic text messages can be part of a sexual harassment charge.

With the country’s mobile users hitting more than 600 million, the amount of rubbish text messaging has been increasing.

Motorola launching Android Smart Phone Soon

motorola_android_logoAs my previous post on HTC and Motorola are actually embarking seriously on installing Android Mobile OS in respective mobile phones in near future. Reported by Mobile88.com again on Motorola’s strategy on using Android Mobile OS for them to re-capture the mobile phone market share:-

Motorola has reaffirmed plans to focus on Google’s Android platform as it attempts to spearhead a recovery in its handsets division. Speaking on the company’s 2Q09 earnings call yesterday, co-CEO Sanjay Jha said the vendor was on track to launch two new Android-based phones in time for the holiday season, and plans to release more in the first quarter of 2010. “[The new Android-based phones] will get us back in the game in smartphones,” he said. He added that Motorola already has deals in place with two major US mobile operators to carry the devices, “with more to follow.” According to reports, Sprint is one likely customer. The new phones will include both smartphones and feature phones, Jha said. The company’s ailing handset division showed slight signs of recovery in 2Q. The firm shipped 14.8 million handsets in the quarter, giving it an estimated 5.5 percent market share. This was down from 28.1 million (9.1 percent share) a year earlier but a slight improvement on the 14.7 million (6 percent share) in the previous quarter.
