Iphone or HiPhone ?

Well, i came across this interesting report.

The Financial Times reported that India is to block millions of cheap copy-cat Chinese mobile phones and accessories from flooding the market. The handset industry describes them as “time bombs” for their often dangerously poor quality, such as exploding batteries.

The Indian Cellular Association (ICA), the lobby group representing Nokia and other large handset makers in the country, stressed that such phones do not have an “international mobile equipment identity” number, which is a standard component of legitimate phones to prevent their use by terrorists or other illegal groups. The ICA estimates that of the 4 million to 5 million handsets imported into India each month from China, between a million and 1.5 million are cheap replicas. India is the recipient of about 40 percent of China’s replica phone output.

The FT pointed out that Nokia has set up its largest manufacturing facility in the world by employee numbers in Chennai, southern India, with 8,000 people. Mobile handset sales in India in the fiscal year ending in March were worth Rs259bn (USD5.3bn), up 7.9 percent year-on-year. Nokia accounted for about two-thirds of the market.

iphone hiphone

Do you know which one is the real Iphone?

Actually the left is the real Iphone :D

But to my personal opinion, the HiPhone on the right is much advance compare to Iphone. This is because the HiPhone is supporting dual sim card and dual standby mode! But unfortunately HiPhone do not support 3G network.

Andriod OS Mobile Phone with Dual Sim Coming Soon

As reported by Mobile Industry Review, there is independent mobile phone manufacturer is intending to launch a dual sim mobile phone which has Andriod OS built-in in a very near future.

I just met with some chaps who will, they tell me, have a dual sim Android handset hitting the marketplace “in the very near term.”

I pressed them further, but they would only commit to “quite a few weeks away” and in terms of cost, “it will be very competitively priced”.

“Sub $200?” I pressed, “Well [nodding] it’ll be very competitive priced.”

So this is very exciting news for the handset marketplace.

The company in question is an independent manufacturer – and they’re seriously innovating.

I was actually intend to buy a dual sim mobile phone recently. I use to carry 2 phones nowadays. One is for my office clients’ communications and the other is for my personal contact. I got very excited when i heard of Acer is launching a dual sim and dual standby mode mobile phone DX900. But i did not buy it, after cross checking with my friend who is using HTC with Windows Mobile OS built-in. He mentioned to me that this OS is very unstable and always hang.

So i think above reported is a good news to me and i will wait for this Android OS Dual Sim Mobile Phone. I hope it will be supporting dual standby mode as well.

Stephen King Book Promotion Might Be Illegal

stephen-king-cell-mediapostcomReported by MediaPost Publication, tactics from the book publisher in promoting the latest novel “Cell” from Stephen King may be against the law.

An appellate court ruled Friday that book publisher Simon & Schuster might have violated federal law by allegedly sending unsolicited text messages promoting Stephen King’s “Cell.”

The 9th Circuit Court of Appeals held that sending SMS messages potentially violates the federal Telephone Consumer Protection Act, which prohibits companies from using automatic telephone dialing systems to make calls to cell phones unless the owners have consented. The decision appears to mark the first time that a federal appellate court has said that the telephone law applies to text messages.

IBM to invest 100 million in Mobile R&D

ibm

IBM has announced plans to invest USD100 million over the next five years in research into mobile. It aims to “create technology in its labs that bring simple, easy-to-use services to the millions of people who have bypassed using the personal computer as their primary method of accessing the Internet, and instead use their mobile devices for managing large forces of enterprise field workers, conducting financial transactions, entertainment, shopping and more.” Kevin Fitchard of TelephonyOnline, told the BBC, “While everyone knew IBM was working in wireless already, this money says it is not a sideline project for the company and that they are banking on wireless as part of their future.”

IBM said its three focus areas are: mobile enterprise enablement, emerging market mobility and enterprise end-user mobile experiences. Analytics, security, privacy and user interface, and navigation will be concentrated on across the research effort. “Mobility and the associated analytics will change virtually every enterprise business process,” said Paul Bloom, chief technologist, IBM Telecom Research. “It will change the relationship between enterprises and their customers, their employees and their partners, enabling them to do business in more intelligent, efficient ways.” For example, in a recent pilot, part of IBM’s first-of-a-kind (FOAK) programme which pairs scientists with aspects of real businesses, used a technology named BlueStar to develop automated mobile devices and application management services for insurance claims processing. It enabled an insurance company to reduce the time needed to process claims by identifying and despatching the most suitable agents through a combination of GPS location technology, presence awareness and analysis of agents’ availability.

FOAK solutions can also be used by telcos and retailers to customise mobile portals and recommend the right products to customers’ at the most opportune time to optimise sales.

China Mobile Phone Operators to slow down 3G Expansion

China Mobile Operators are slowing down the 3G coverage expansion due to several feed back from subscribers.

China Mobile, China Unicom and China Telecom have all recently slowed down the expansion of their 3G businesses amid mounting complaints of poor 3G network performance from consumers. The moves are likely to result in stockpiled inventory at some handset vendors, according to market sources in Taiwan.

A lack of comprehensive network infrastructure and CPE support as well as the absence of user-friendly environment and data services underlies the consumer complaints, the sources noted.

Microsoft to sell Windows 7 without I.E in Europe

Reported by CNET Asia that Microsoft will not bundle Internet Explorer 8 in Windows 7. This is because Microsoft is concern about the antitrust by the European regulators.

Microsoft plans to offer a version in Europe that has the browser removed. Computer makers would then have the option to add the browser back in, ship another browser or ship multiple browsers, according to a confidential memo that was sent to PC makers and seen by CNET News.

“To ensure that Microsoft is in compliance with European law, Microsoft will be releasing a separate version of Windows 7 for distribution in Europe that will not include Windows Internet Explorer,” the software maker said in the memo. “Microsoft will offer IE 8 separately and free of charge and will make it easy and convenient for PC manufacturers to preinstall IE 8 on Windows 7 machines in Europe if they so choose. PC manufacturers may choose to install an alternative browser instead of IE 8, and has always been the case, they may install multiple browsers if they wish.”

Now i wonder how the users is going to browse the files and folder :D

China taking measures to prevent SMS Spam and Fraud

China mobile operators are taking steps to prevent SMS spam and SMS fraud to their subscribers. Reuters reported:-

China will limit the number of messages that a mobile number can send per day to battle rampant spam messages clogging cell phones, state media said on Friday.

Spam messages, largely consisting of real estate offers, ads for English lessons, fake tax receipts and other frauds have grown very quickly in China in recent years. It is not unusual to receive dozens of messages a day, including the odd gun ad.

China’s three main mobile network operators, China Telecom, China Mobile Ltd and China Unicom have signed onto an agreement to deal with inter-network spam messages, the Xinhua News Agency said, citing company officials.

One mobile number cannot send more than 200 messages per hour or 1,000 per day on weekdays, according to the agreement.

On holidays, 500 messages per hour and 2,000 per day may originate from one number.

Here in Malaysia, the opus moderandi of fraud is, the mobile subscriber will receive a SMS in telling him that he has won a cash prize in a contest. But in order for him to claim the cash prize, he needs to bank in/pay a sum of processing fee. So when he bank in/pay the money, he’ll never has the chance to see the cash prize again.

Should you came across, heard or experienced before this kind of incident, please do share in the comment.

Air Text – The Next “Must Have” Mobile Application?

air-text-wave-messagingNow you can forget about the tiny keyboard or the touch qwerty keypad whenever you want to send an email or SMS via your mobile phone. At the Duke University,  engineering students has come out a prototype of  mobile application call Air Text/Wave Messaging. This mobile app allow you to compose/key in text just merely waving your mobile phone.

“By holding the phone like a pen, you can write short messages or draw simple diagrams in the air,” said Sandip Agrawal, an electrical and computer engineering student at Duke University in North Carolina.

The air-writing app takes advantage of accelerometers already inside cell phones such as Apple’s iPhone. Accelerometers normally keep track of phone movements and orientation, such as having the display screen rotate from portrait to landscape mode.

Speed writers may still want to stick with texting for now, because air-writers currently have to pause briefly between each letter and cannot use cursive. But researchers expect an improved app that will come with better algorithms and accelerometers.

Future versions of this PhonePoint Pen app may even allow users to take a photo with their phone and write a quick note on it.  extracted from LiveScience.com

So in the near future, when you see people waving their mobile phone please don’t think that they are saying hi to you. :D
