Reported by TheStar, Indian Bharti Airtel and African MTN Group Ltd has continued their merger talks again.

Bharti would acquire a 49 percent stake in MTN, and MTN and its shareholders would acquire a 36 percent stake in Bharti through a complex cash and equity deal, the statement said.

Microsoft and Linux Foundation Joining Force

Reported by Daily Tech, Microsoft and Linux Foundation are actually getting along with another though it does not happen so often. They are actually issued a  joint letter to voice out their displeasure.

This is because ALI (American Law Institute) latest effort to create an implied warranty stating that all software shipped should have no material defects.

The ALI is largely made up of judges and attorneys who are assigned the task of dealing with protocols related to software sales and warranties. Due to serious flaws and other issues, more consumers are interested in having politicians and others deal with defective software, as it can be sometimes difficult to get the companies behind the software to take responsibility.

“Parties should be able to choose the rules that best suit their needs, as they have the most knowledge about their particular transaction,” according to the joint letter. “That is not to say that certain protections — for example, in the business-to-consumer context — are not warranted. But even in today’s common law approach to software contracts, there is no great failure in terms of substandard quality or unmet expectations that would justify imposition of new mandatory rules, particularly given existing remedies under misrepresentation and consumer protection law.”

Both the Linux Foundation and Microsoft especially don’t like the following statement written into the ALI’s Principles of the Law of Software Contracts: “A transferor that receives money or a right to payment of a monetary obligation in exchange for the software warrants to any party in the normal chain of distribution that the software contains no material hidden defects of which the transferor was aware at the time of the transfer. This warranty may not be excluded.”

Cibai: An abstract interpretation-based …

Received a funny link from my friend a while ago. As the title mentioned, it got nothing to do with any programming language or something. It is just the word of it – “Cibai” :D

“We introduce Cibai a generic static analyzer based on abstract interpretation for the modular analysis and verification of Java classes. We present the abstract semantics and the underlying abstract domain, a combination of an aliasing analysis and octagons.

We discuss some implementation issues, and we compare Cibai with similar tools, showing how Cibai achieves a higher level of automation and precision while having comparable performances.

Actually the pronunciation sound like a bad word in Hokkian language ( Chinese dialect). The meaning of it is – private part of female in harsh manner.

WIFI | WIMAX | 3G

China Unicom launched 3G Trials

China Unicom started trials of its 3G network yesterday, becoming the last of China’s three largest mobile operators to do so.

According to a report by China’s official Xinhua news agency, China Unicom’s trial 3G network covers 55 cities and plans to be expanded to 284 cities by the end of September.

The operator’s president, Chang Xiaobing, said the network would be fully operational by year-end, but did not give a specific date. He added that triallists will be able to make video calls and access mobile TV services via the new network.

The operator – the second-largest in the country after China Mobile – has branded its new high-speed network as ‘WO’ and will reportedly use three different brand designs to target different market segments.

According to earlier reports, China Unicom will initially charge subscribers CNY150 (US$22) per month to access the new network, though further price plans are scheduled to be introduced when the trial is expanded in September.

He quoted:

If your friend is sending you the similar message, please ask them to change windows live password.

“Never give your password to anyone. No one from Windows Live Mail will ever ask you for your password.” (via http://help.live.com/)

Well for sure i’m going to inform my ex-colleague for this matter and inform her to change her password soonest possible!
